“The Radical Treatment of Traumatic Epilepsy and Its Rationale” by Wilder Penfield. The Canadian Medical Association Journal, Vol. 23, No. 2. August 1930
Wilder Penfield’s work in neurology, particularly his research on epilepsy, was groundbreaking in the 1930s. In collaboration with neurosurgeon William Cone at the Montreal Neurological Institute, Penfield transformed the treatment of countless patients. The publication of detailed medical illustrations in journals such as these enabled his findings to circulate internationally, extending their impact far beyond Montreal. This visual dissemination also helped usher in an era of medical celebrity, as physicians gained global recognition and professional validation through the wide circulation of their work.
