Illustration by Hortense Douglas, Montreal General Hospital, c.1933
Hortense Douglas Cantlie Fonds, McGill University Archives
This illustration would have been created by Douglas well into her career at the Montreal General Hospital. Labelled “Carcinoid of the Small Bowel,” it presents an interesting contrast between the carbon dust technique (above), used to create realistic representations of organs or flesh, and line drawing (below). In this case, it seems the line drawing may be used to clarify the condition depicted in the more detailed carbon dust drawing.
