The Women of the Sooke Region: From Pioneers to the Modern Wonder Woman

Welcome to Women of the Sooke Region: From Pioneers to the Modern Wonder Woman. This exhibit is an exploration of women who had a key role in shaping the region from Sooke (pronounced “Sook”) to Port Renfrew, British Columbia. While celebrating the formidable women who helped create today’s Sooke, this exhibit will also include the stories, triumphs and challenges of the women who are building the Sooke of the future. Writings, material culture, and historical photographs will help give context to the lives of women who were, and are today, instrumental in building our community.

The women of the Sooke region have contributed in fields such as: arts and culture, community work, sports, medicine, business and much more. They are inspiring in the myriad ways they have shaped the region, creating a culture of dedication to their community.
