The Oliver Mowat brought coal to Oshawa for many years. The Oliver Mowat was a three-masted schooner. It sank at Duck Island on September 1, 1921, after colliding with the steamer King West. The top level of the pier has disappeared in this picture, but the horse-drawn coal carts are still evident, as is the freight shed and ticket office at the end of the pier.
