I was Really Big on Monochromatic

Nils: The earliest memory of anything that I’m wearing is usually pretty bad to be honest. I was really big on monochromatic, so I had no sense of any particular style. I would wear, like, red shorts with a red plain t-shirt, and I would just look like a crayon or something, just in regards to no sense of style or colour matching or colour blocking, anything like that. It’s really evolved over the years, just in regards to getting older and not really playing by any sort of rule or any sartorial instruction. I just enjoy what I find and then I just wear it freely.
With my upbringing, I was raised by a self-employed woman and she is- my mother- she is a costume designer. So, having fashion being a huge influence in my life growing up, I was someone that had couture at like, age 17, which is crazy and pretty unique because based on her profession. So over the years, I’ve actually brought some pieces today, as well, that she herself has made just for me. So, when you have things that are made to measure at a very young age, I would like to think it didn’t create a sense of entitlement, but it’s definitely unique.
