Just Try It

Armida: In terms of exploring style, I don’t know. I mean, I grew up in San Diego where a lot- the neighborhood that I grew up in was essentially almost 100% Mexican- Mexican immigrants. And so I grew up with a lot of different fashion styles there because there were like the kids like me, who were first generation, our parents were immigrants but we were born there and there were a lot of different cultures in that subset, right?
So, there were like the cholos, and there were like the rockers, and there were like all these different, that were all impacted by our Mexican heritage. And I really liked the cholo style, but I never thought I could pull it off and there were certainly not clothing in my size that I could pull it off with, right? So I never got into the style, even though I really liked it and I really wanted to. And then there was like the older generations who were more like cowboy, kind of like- you know, like, the Mexican cowboy kind of styles and stuff like that, that a lot of my uncles and aunts and stuff dressed in. And then so, I don’t know- I don’t know how I would advise somebody to pick a style. But in terms of sewing, just try it, do it, right?
