Wood yard
Archives de la Côte-du-Sud, Raymond Grandmaison Collection.
In the 20th century, wood yards located near logging camps played a crucial role in the forest industry. Timber was cut by loggers in the camps and then transported to these wood yards.
Upon arrival, the wood was sorted by type and quality. It was then stacked in large piles for drying and storage. Some processing of the wood might also have taken place on-site.
Wood yards were essential for supporting the local economy and providing the necessary materials for construction and other industries. They also served as a place of work and life for many families.
