After significant restoration by the community of the harbourfront area left abandoned by the coal industry and the removal of the defunct E&N Railway Transfer Wharf, Ladysmith’s Transfer Beach Park was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1967. Mayor Kathleen Grouhel is to the Queen’s left. Prince Philip is seated at right.
