Juana Smith (b 1798: d 1872) – aka Lady Smith – was the Spanish wife of Sir Harry Smith, a very decorated and venerable British soldier who, between 1847-1852, was the Governor and High Commissioner of the Cape Colony, South Africa. Juana herself was a war hero, having been involved in the Battle of Maharajpur in India in 1843 and subsequently decorated by Queen Victoria. Both had towns in South Africa named after them – Harrismith in the Free State and Ladysmith (formerly known as Windsor) in Natal.
