Construction of the Town of Ladysmith, British Columbia, commenced about 1899. Many of the commercial buildings in the downtown area date from the early 1900s and are a mixture of wood and brick construction. The orange crosswalk on the left, decorated with white feathers, represents ‘Every Child Matters’, helping to raise awareness of the victims and survivors of the residential school system. The blue crosswalk, on the right with red poppies painted on it is ‘Ladysmith Remembers’, a tribute to our veterans.
