This Ladysmith Recorder Newspaper article titled Excursion to Vancouver, Ladysmith City Band Charter S.S. Joan announces the following:
Tomorrow week, the day after payday, the S.S. Joan will leave Nanaimo at 7 p.m., and Ladysmith two hours later, for Vancouver, with the second annual excursion of the City Band.
All the band boys will be aboard and there will be all kinds of music aboard the boat.
Refreshments will be served as well.
Returning boat will leave the terminal City at 7 o’clock, reaching Ladysmith about 10.00p.m.
Tickets $1.00
The S.S. Joan was a coastal steamer which plied a regular passenger service between Ladysmith, Nanaimo and Vancouver.
The Ladysmith City Band had arranged to charter the steamer for a voyage going from Vancouver Island to and back from Vancouver.
The statement that the steamer would leave Nanaimo at 7.00 p.m. is clearly in error – it must have been at 7.00 am as the boat was due to return, departing Vancouver the same day.
