Members Of The 5th (BC) Field Artillery Regiment Militia During The Great Strike

Date: August 1913

After the riots of August 13, 1913, BC Attorney General William Bowser ordered the militia to restore order. The first regiment to arrive in Ladysmith was the 5^th (BC) Field Artillery Regiment, members of which are shown here marching along 1^st Avenue in Ladysmith. In the background can be seen a sign bearing the letters UMWA, signifying the location of the hall used by the United Mine Workers of America union, which was directing the strike action.
