Date: August 1913
After the riots of August 13, 1913, BC Attorney General William Bowser ordered the militia to restore order. The first regiment to arrive in Ladysmith was the 5th (BC) Field Artillery Regiment, members of which are shown here marching along 1st Avenue in Ladysmith. In the background can be seen a sign bearing the letters UMWA, signifying the location of the hall used by the United Mine Workers of America union, which was directing the strike action.
