A boy looks on as a steam engine, dark smoke billowing from its chimney and white steam from its whistle, shunts loaded wooden coal cars onto an elevated track for the transfer of coal into massive wooden coal bunkers below. In the background, the waters of the harbour are visible with a glimpse of the trestle structure of the coal loading wharf.
