The Musical Eckardts, consisting of four male musicians, was an unusual act well known across western Canada, featuring metal percussion instruments, performing up until at least 1917. Unfortunately, there is no review of their performance given in Ladysmith, but they are well-lauded in newspapers of the time.
Maribaphone is a misspelling of ‘Marimbaphone’. This is an obsolete tuned percussion instrument developed by a very progressive American musical instrument manufacturing company (J.C. Deagan Inc.) in the early 20th century. This company also produced an aluminum harp consisting of vertically arranged bell rods played with rosined gloves.
