Brass Band In Parade Supporting Striking Miners

Source: Ladysmith Archives
Date: 1913
Hundreds of miners’ wives and children parade behind the United Mine Workers of America Union brass band as part of a mass procession in Ladysmith in 1913 (possibly on May Day) during the Great Coal Strike of 1912–14. Four, apparently union dignitaries lead the band. The coal bunkers, washery and wharves from where the coal mined at Extension was exported are visible top right.
