Interview with Lise Léveillé.
Clip duration: 1 min 0 s
From the collection of Appartenance Mauricie Société d’histoire régionale.
Justin Chauvette and Kate Grenier, the two coordinators of this virtual exhibition, speak with Lise Léveillé, a native of the region who acquired ownership of Le Dynamique de la Mauricie in 1978. They are joined by Lise’s cousin, André Léveillé, a former mayor of Saint-Tite and cofounder of the Festival Western de Saint-Tite.
Kate – So, as a woman working in the media sector, how did you manage to carve out a role for yourself in a field that was still… male-dominated?
Justin – Yeah.
Lise – Of course, I always wanted to make my mark. And I was used to being around men. My father died young. But at community gatherings, I always hung around the men. The men tended to talk about things other than their children. I wanted to learn, you know? From the start, I was all in. I was fascinated by politics and everything going on in the world, you know? Sometimes, I found myself disappointed because I wanted to solve the big mysteries. You get a taste for it, and then you… People must have been laughing at me behind my back. But…
Male voice – You get used to it.
Lise – I know you understand. And well, that’s life, isn’t it? [Laughter]
Justin – Hmm.
