Closure of the BF Goodrich Plant
Le Nouvelliste (November 29, 1994). Article by Stéphan Ratelle.
Le Nouvelliste announced the permanent closure of the local BF Goodrich plant on November 29, 1994. At the time, only two workers remained at the facility in Shawinigan. More than 200 others had been laid off in 1990. Almost a decade later, on October 15, 1999, the last building was torn down. Later, the site was cleaned up and the soil decontaminated. But it was not until 2008 that an arena, now known as Centre Gervais Auto, finally opened at the location.
