Louise Plante is a retired journalist who worked at Le Nouvelliste. Paule Vermot Desroches is currently a reporter at the same newspaper. In this clip, they discuss Plante’s career.
Louise Plante: When women journalists arrived on the scene, it definitely became easier to reach a female audience. Women were more likely to become interested in reading, listening or watching once we started talking about them! Before, that hadn’t been the case at all.
Paule Vermot-Desroches: Uh-huh.
Louise Plante: The problem wasn’t just in journalism. There were a lot of sectors, you know… In the medical field, they did studies on men and didn’t do any on women. It was crazy. But that’s how things were at the time. I’m sure that the presence of women in journalism… Yes, it influenced the topics that were addressed.
