Marie-Anne Duperreault’s Birthday (December 5, 1970)
Le Nouvelliste (November 5, 1970). Article by Claire Roy.
On December 5, 1970, Claire Roy published an article that began by mentioning the leading role played by Marie-Anne Duperreault in the events held to celebrate Dominion Day in the town of Merritt, British Columbia. As the community’s oldest resident, Duperreault was chosen to lay a wreath at the cenotaph. She had been born on September 21, 1885, in the Quebec county of Berthier. That made her 85 years old when the article was published. Earlier in her life, she had launched a women’s column in Le Patriote, a French-language newspaper based in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
