Michelle Roy
Appartenance Mauricie Société d’histoire régionale, Le Nouvelliste Fonds (F32827-001). Unknown photographer.
Michelle Roy, daughter of Claire Roy, was born in 1936. She was quick to follow in her mother’s footsteps, joining the staff of Le Nouvelliste in 1956. She was also a member of the Cercle Marchildon and its parent association, the Société d’étude et de conférences de la Mauricie. Many of her contributions to Le Nouvelliste drew praise, including her coverage of the rain-soaked papal visit to the Notre-Dame-du-Cap Basilica in 1984. The Mauricie branch of the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste has named a prize in her honour. The annual Michelle Roy Award recognizes excellence in French-language journalism. Michelle Roy died on February 5, 2026, at the age of 89.
Taken on January 30, 1990, this photograph shows Michelle Roy at the Ursuline Monastery, with a nun celebrating her 100 birthday. It accompanied an article published in Le Nouvelliste.
