This hand-tinted postcard shows the Kirkfield Lift Lock as it appeared during its first decade of operation. Opened in 1907, it remains the second-highest hydraulic lift lock in the world, with a lift of 15 metres (49 feet). It was substantially rebuilt in 1969 and continues to be one of the Trent-Severn Waterway’s busiest lock facilities.
