These fruits are not real. They are made from beeswax, perhaps by nuns who had mastered this art form. Made of wax and later plastic, artificial fruits were used to garnish the centrepieces of tables at a time when fresh fruits were harder to come by year round.

In 2022, artist Michel Saulnier created public artworks featuring apple trees and their fruit for seniors’ residences. This theme pays tribute to seniors as knowledge bearers.
