Caring for trees
Pierre Jeffrey, owner of Verger Pierre Jeffrey in Cap-Saint-Ignace
Excerpt from a documentary by Marco Pelletier, VisionTrame, 2021
Caring for someone or something means paying special attention to them so that they have everything they need. This is precisely the attitude you find among people who love their fruit trees and get good harvests from them.

If you want to have a good harvest in the fall,
[Pierre Jeffrey appears and provides explanations.]
you have to work all summer.
First, you have to prune your trees to regulate your fruit, the amount of fruit you’ll have.
Then, you have to turn over the soil and fertilize it. A lot of products are now available in garden centres: composts to fertilize your fruit trees, give them energy and make them produce.
[Pierre Jeffrey is at the wheel of his all-terrain vehicle, which is towing a lawn mower. He is mowing the lawn around his fruit trees.]
After that, you have to trim the lawn. We keep it clean because, even here, if it’s full of weeds, there are insects that will settle in those weeds and attack our fruit.
