The Slow Food movement focuses on the joy of eating with family and friends. Meals are made together, which leads to the exchange of ideas and discoveries. People take the time to choose food, prepare it well and savour it slowly.
The Slow Food movement was founded in 1986 by Carlo Petrini, an Italian food columnist. It is now present world wide. Petrini wanted to counter big multinationals that make eating a routine, hasty process where food tastes the same from one place to the next, from one city to the next. The movement also encourages local sourcing from producers who respect the environment.
