The Bluenose is the elegant wooden sailing ship that has been featured on the reverse of the 10-cent coin since 1937. Its designer, William Rouée, and the Lunenburg Shipyard in Nova Scotia built the schooner in 1921 to make it the fastest cod fishing boat ever built. They succeeded!
Captain Angus J. Walters and the Bluenose won many races, including four in a row between 1922 and 1938.
The Bluenose also appears on the current Nova Scotia licence plate and on four Canadian stamps, the first of which was in 1929.
