Sugar apples

A recipe that can be made by the whole family, with parental supervision
You’ll need a candy thermometer. But BE CAREFUL, hot syrup burns.
Ingredients
10 apples (depending on size)
10 wooden skewers
3 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
2/3 cup water
1 teaspoon lemon
15 cloves
1/2 teaspoon red food colouring
Preparation
Line a baking sheet with lightly buttered parchment paper.
Rinse and dry apples thoroughly.
Remove the stem from each apple and insert the skewers.
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, cream of tartar, water, lemon juice and cloves.
Add the colouring and bring to a boil
Simmer without stirring until the candy thermometer reads 310°F.
Remove from heat and remove the cloves.
Dip the apples in the syrup.
Place them on the prepared baking sheet.
