My orchard, my retirement!
Pierre Jeffrey, owner of Verger Pierre Jeffrey in Cap-Saint-Ignace
Excerpt from a documentary by Marco Pelletier, VisionTrame, 2021
After moving to Cap-Saint-Ignace, Pierre Jeffrey bought a piece of land with a small orchard on it. He decided to operate the orchard with his wife. That was a good decision, because a few years later, this orchard became the retirement project of this producer, who loves being on the land.

I’ve lived in Cap-Saint-Ignace since 1992. By chance, in 2001, I bought a small orchard, a plot of land. At the time, it only had apple trees on it. So I bought the land in the fall. During the winter, we asked ourselves: ‘What can we do with this?” There were 300 fruit trees on it. So my wife and I decided to cultivate it, and things went well: it gave me a project for my retirement.

I’m the son of a farmer from the La Pocatière region, so I’ve always worked in gardens.

My main job was something else, but I’ve always loved working the land.

I retired in 2009; I was 60 years old.
