At the grocery store

The interior of this grocery store doesn’t look very much like the interior of a grocery store today. The photograph was taken in 1919, or very close to it, as indicated by a calendar from that year hung on the wall. The scene is in a grocery store in Quebec City’s Lower Town. The little girl has chosen an apple for her brother and is taking one for herself. The barrels are similar to those that used to leave from the wharves on the Côte-du-Sud, filled with apples and plums.
Can you find what differentiates this store from those we have today?
