The house that once belonged to Amable Morin is of neoclassical style. It has around 20 rooms spread over four floors. It housed the notary’s office, which contained a large vault. The general store and the post office, of which Morin was postmaster from 1835 to 1873, were located in the basement.
At the center of the roof is a promenade, which was known to the neighbors as “La Promenade des Veuves” (widow’s walk). Women used to come here to watch the river in the hope that they would see their husband’s boat return from the sea.
This privately-owned house still stands proudly next to Route de la Seigneurie in Saint-Roch-des-Aulnaies. Even today, its size, seven dormer windows in front and roof-top terrace set it apart. Several outbuildings were also located on the property: a sheep pen, a milkhouse, a stable and a shed.
