La Victoire newspaper, October 13, 1971.
City of Saint-Eustache. Archives. Fonds de la Corporation des Fêtes du Vieux-Saint-Eustache.
After voting in favour of merger, the municipal councils of the Parish and the City published this notice to inform the populations of the two municipalities. Written by Henri Hémond, Clerk of the City of Saint-Eustache, it describes the new entity, and explains how the new government would function and how costs would be shared between residents of the two regions. Part of the announcement reads:
“Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Saint-Eustache and the Council of the Parish of Saint-Eustache have adopted, by an absolute majority of their members, a by-law (By-law number 637 of the City of Saint-Eustache), authorizing the submission of a joint petition to the Lieutenant Governor in Council, asking him to grant Letters Patent amalgamating the City of Saint-Eustache and the Parish of Saint-Eustache and creating a new city municipality.”
