Julie Ciavarella, an employee of Patrimoine culturel Vieux-Saint-Eustache (formerly the Corporation du Moulin Légaré) for 20 years and the organizer of the Festival de la galette, explains what the event is about and invites people to participate. The interview excerpt is transcribed below:
Julie Ciavarella: It’s really like the last festival of the summer. You know, with it being in mid-September, it feels to me like we’re ending the summer with that event. It’s an intergenerational event that brings out the whole family. I even have friends who tell me: “No, no, for me, it’s a tradition! We all come, parents, grand-parents, grand-children, we come and spend time in the gardens during the Festival de la galette.” So it’s a really festive atmosphere, but with an emphasis on our history, our heritage, with partners who are committed, dedicated volunteers, people, artists who are happy to be there.
So here’s your invitation: round up your friends and family, and [come and] have an authentic experience, enjoying yourself, celebrating the end of the summer, discovering the region’s history and heritage, sampling delicious pancakes made with flour from the Légaré mill, and have an experience that’s just real, sweet and pleasant. These days when we’re constantly on the run, just taking a moment – that’s what the Festival de la galette is all about.
