Letters of Thanks, 1998 Ice Storm

Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, Museum & Archives.
A selection of some of the letters of thanks received by the Shaar for the shelter that the congregation set up during the 1998 Ice Storm, as reprinted in the synagogue’s bulletin.
Two of the letters read:
Dear Rabbi,
As one of the many people who took refuge at your synagogue during the ice storm, I just want to express my very deep gratitude for the wonderful care we all received. The volunteers, including soldiers, police, CLSC, etc, were so kind and helpful and of course, the hot meals so generously supplied were so good and plentiful. The total organization was superb and the synagogue, an unforgettable host. I will always remember the welcoming kindness from everyone. It went well beyond the call of duty. Words cannot adequately express my sincere thanks.
Sincerely,
Helen M. Kelly
Dear Mrs. Schreiber,
On behalf of City Council, I would like to express my profound appreciation to the Synagogue Shaar Hashomayim and its staff and volunteers for opening its doors to help those most affected in our community during the recent ice storm crisis. From the first day that the shelter was opened, the effort made to welcome and comfort the storm victims was extraordinary. I pray that we will never again have to provide shelters under such difficult conditions, but it is certainly gratifying to know that the Shaar Hashomayim has the facilities, the staff, and the heart to help. I will be contacting you within the next week or so to discuss this matter further. In the meantime, please pass along to all your staff and volunteers our very best wishes for their tireless efforts.
Yours truly,
Peter F. Trent
