Leonidas Hubbard Jr. along with his friend, lawyer, Dillon Wallace and guide George Elson a scots-cree from the James Bay region left from the shores of North West River to embark on an adventure of a lifetime. Their goal was to map the interior of Labrador, a region at that time uncharted, observe the George River caribou herd, and reach Ungava Bay. Sadly, they took the wrong river just after departing. This mistake among others proved to be fatal for Hubbard. It was an arduous journey with many hardships and pitfalls, but the men were courageous and endured. The following slides tell some of the story of their fateful journey.
