Moving on to the second floor, one is able to visit Captain Bob's Room, which is the last bedroom on the right. This room was given over to him whenever he visited. Each summer, however, it was the nursery for visiting grandchildren and their nanny.

In 1987 Hawthorne Cottage and 3,500 artifacts were given to Parks Canada by the Honorable Mr. Justice Rupert W. Bartlett.
Hawthorne Cottage was a focal point in the social life of the town of Brigus. Through their many activities - sealing, fishing, and Arctic exploration - the Bartlett family reflected the way of life of a family, a community, and a province. They reached out far beyond the world of the outport village, and forged connections of international importance.
Through the work of the Newfoundland Historic Parks Association in partnership with Parks Canada, the cottage was opened to the public on June 27th, 1995.
