Olds Oracle:
According to “A History of Olds and Area”:
“In 1896 A.J. Samis began to publish a weekly newspaper, the “Olds Oracle”. This had great significance to the young settlement, as it brought a new sense of identity and feeling of community. People now had more in common; all that happened locally, god or bad, was shared. The increased opportunities in advertising opened up new possibilities to local business and stimulated an awareness of Olds farther afield.

Herb Samis:
Herb became a solid supporter of Olds. When the gold rushers of 1898 asked him to join them his answer was "There is black gold in Olds". He was referring to the soil. He planted a CPR garden for 50 years. The travelers on the train would see Herbs messages planted in flowers, as well as his outstanding vegetables and fruits.
The message he planted most often was "See Olds First"
