The town council was formed in Indian Bay in the 1970's. The first mayor of Indian Bay was Ed Parsons. George Ackerman and Kevin Collins were also mayors of Indian Bay and the current mayor of Indian Bay is Renee Easton.

In 1994 the population of Indian Bay was 240. The community had two convenience stores, and a gas bar that sold recreational fishing equipment and supplies. Indian Bay has a beautiful park with 14 campsites, a playground, a new trailer park and cabins.
Indian Bay is known for it's sportfishing and serves as a gateway to numerous ponds and brooks in the area. Indian Bay is one of the best spots for Brook trout and salmon fishing in Newfoundland. Indian Bay's pristine wilderness has a lot to offer with its historic beauty, tremendous fishing and tranquil surrounding. To truly appreciate this pristine wilderness come fish in its crystal clear waters.
