This worked supplemented their income, which meant better living conditions for families in Indian Bay. However, this company was sold to Sir Eric Bowaters in 1937.

The population of Indian Bay continued increasing until it reached 285 in 1961. In 1961 a fire began in Hare Bay and burned toward Indian Bay. When the news of the fire came to Indian Bay, the residents cut down the trees surrounding the town, so the fire would not burn the houses and buildings in the community. Fortunately, none of the houses burned in Indian Bay. The fire continued to burn until the snow put it out in December.
