Demobilization

After a period of rest and thinning out in Holland and the United Kingdom the unit finally returned home to Port Arthur for demobilization on 30 January 1946. New Colours had been presented to the unit by Field Marshall Sir Harold Alexander, the future Governor General of Canada, at Aldershot earlier that month. They came home to a civic reception at the Armoury and thousands of well wishers. There were speeches, welcomes and prayers and the newly presented Colours of the 1st Battalion were formally transferred to the 2nd Battalion. The Battle Honours on the new Colours were those emblazoned on the old 52nd Battalion Colours because the honours for the Second World War were not yet approved. Battle Honours for the Second World War were not promulgated until 1957. Those selected for the LSR(M) were "FALAISE," "Falaise Road," "The Laison," "Chambois," "THE SCHELDT," "The Lower Maas," "THE RHINELAND," "The Hochwald," "Veen," "Twente Canal," "Friesoythe," "Küsten Canal," "Bad Zwischenahn," and "NORTH-WEST EUROPE, 1944-1945." Those in bold were selected for emblazonment. These were emblazoned on the new LSSR colours in 1983.
