Paul Kane's Cobourg 1833-1834

Late in the fall of 1832, some of Cobourg's citizens decided to build and operate their own steam-boat. A joint stock company was formed and the decision was made to name the new boat The Cobourg. Its hull was built in Cobourg from local timber and then towed to York for the istallation of its boilers. The steamship saw many years of service on Lake Ontario.
