Paul Kane's Cobourg 1833-1834

 

 

By 1832 the influx of emigrants from Europe had grown substanially. So had the spread of cholera. In an effort to keep the disease under control a local board of health was established at Cobourg. The committee established an isolation area east of the main settlement and Lake Captains were ordered to land any infected passengers off for quarantine.
