"Johnny and his Musical Mates" have shared a rich and full history expressing appreciation and love for each other along with dedication towards music. They have shared their musical ability creating memories and heritage for family and friends to enjoy for many years to come.

The next generation are the children and grandchildren who have been inspired to carry on the tradition.

"RETREAT" were a popular country rock band through the 1970's. They entertained for many events including weddings and concerts.

"RETREAT" is second generation to "Johnny and his Musical Mates" - Dick Johnson, guitar and keyboard, his sister Sigrid on bass, along with the Martin brothers from Gimli, Manitoba, Lorne and Ted. The Martin brothers have entertained with Riverton talent for more than 25 years. Lorne is on drums, banjo and guitar and Ted on lead guitar. "Retreat" still entertains occasionally.

Donald Benedictson is a professional bass player, entertainer, studio engineer and producer.

Donald has accompanied singer Connie Kaldor on a tour of Denmark, Norway and Belgium, and also was a member of the Ray St. Germaine band which entertained Canadian troops in Cyprus. This young musician has also worked with such musicians as Kathy St. Germaine, Jake Chenier, Jacques Lussier and Heather Bishop.

Donald has toured extensively and has seen much of the world in his travels.

Donald is second generation to "Johnny and his Musical Mates".

Lori Johannesson, daughter of Laugi Johannesson, was very young when she began to sing.

Lori had a very true, strong singing voice that would amaze audiences. Even at a young age, Lori had a professional way of presenting herself when asked to perform.

Second generation to "Johnny and his Musical Mates", Lori acquired her musical ability through influence and appreciation for music.

Lori was asked to perform for many community events and special occasions. She was always willing to make any event special.

Lori Johannesson passed away June 5, 1993.
Lori's daughter, "Lorlen", was born June 4, 1993. Lorlen is taking formal piano lessons and dance and intends to carry on her mother's tradition.

This young trio, with hard work and dedication, became local celebrities in the Interlake. They have performed at more events than they can remember.

These children sang in superb three part harmony and always displayed professional stage presence.

Derek, Jennifer and Kendra have performed for concerts, festivals, hootenannys, Winnipeg Manitoba Folklorama, Manitoba Country Music Awards. They had the pleasure to be asked to sing for the Premier of Manitoba and Ministers of Government from across Canada and Iceland. They have also performed at the Manitoba Legislature on occasion.

These children have studied music and theory through the Royal Conservatory of Music.

This picture was taken at the Fine Country Folk Studio after the trio completed their recording. These young children worked diligently in the production for this release.

Derek, Jennifer and Kendra at this young age had the perseverance to endure many months of rehearsing followed by long hours in the studio to produce a remarkable recording. This production consists of selections in Icelandic and English.

They are the third generation to "Johnny and his Musical Mates".
