One of the changes that the Mill initiated was the Effluent Treatment System due to Federal Regulations on water discharge from industrial sites. As a result, the Corner Brook Pulp & Paper Company Limited, at a cost of $33 million, began construction on a primary and secondary wastewater treatment system, which was installed and became operational in 1996. The Mill now meets and surpasses all Federal Environment AC regulations regarding suspended solids, biological oxygen demand, and toxicity.
