So many Torbay girls have been Brownies, then Girl Guides, and some have moved on to become Pathfinders, all under the guidance of their volunteer leaders. In fact, Torbay was the location of an official Girl Guide camp. Today's Camp Carey Road, off Bauline Line and up Buckley's Hill, is named after the camp, which housed girls and chaperones from various parts of the province over the years of its existence.

The Torbay Museum has amongst its holdings the guest book from the official opening of Camp Carey in 1975, as well as an album full of pictures taken by the leaders of the First Torbay Brownie Pack around 1980. Many well known community figures appear in the guest book and album, including Sister Winifred Power and Sister Rosalie Carey (camp namesake), from the former St. Michael's Convent in Torbay; the late Pat McGrath, well known for his volunteerism and musical talent; and Torbay's late first mayor, Bill Manning. Indeed, the guest book and album present something of a "who's who" of community-minded individuals who have helped shape the community, as well as support the local guiding movement.
