The last signatures and comments in the Camp Carey guest book are from 1987, before the original camp building, unfortunately, burned down. Lorraine Holden, with the Calvert Girl Guides, wrote, "Best camp I ever had!!! Everybody loved it." Many other Girl Guides have fond memories of staying at Camp Carey, doing crafts, fetching water from the pump and playing softball during the day, then roasting marshmallows, telling spooky stories and having campfire sing-a-longs before going inside to roll out their sleeping bags for the night, and making the reluctant trip to the outhouse in the morning.

Until it burned down, going to Camp Carey was a highlight of the year for Brownies and Girl Guides. Many games were played on the field in front of the building. Talent shows, craft projects and hikes were just some of the activities for which Camp Carey was home base.

But there were things to do all year round, too! Like Brownies in so many other towns, Torbay Brownies and their leaders mark the Christmas season with a little party and visit from Santa and, in 1980, Big Bird of Sesame Street fame. Lifelong Torbay resident, the late Pat McGrath often entertained Torbay Brownies with sing-a-longs, accompanied by his wife, Brownie leader, Gertrude. "Puff the Magic Dragon" was one of the best loved songs.
