The legacy of the Great Storm continues to live on in Goderich.

At the Maitland Cemtery, the gravestone of five unknown sailors still stands. There is also a historical plaque commemorating the tragedy and ever year, a Mariner's Service is held.

It was on Sunday, August 3, 1969 that a historic plaque commemorating those lost in the Great Storm of 1913 was unveiled overlooking Lake Huron in Goderich. The plaque was erected by the Archaeological and Historic Sites Board of the Department of the Records and Archives of Ontario after a request was made by the Goderich Lions Club. Harold Turner, president of the Huron County Historical Society, did the honours of unveiling the plaque

There were many guests of honor in attendance for the unveiling of the Great Storm of 1913 plaque. These guests were introduced by Mr. Clayton Edwards, chairman of the Goderich Lions Club as well as chairman for the plaque unveiling event. These guests of honor included the Honorable C. S. MacNaughton (MPP; Huron), Murray Gaunt (MPP; Huron-Bruce), Robert E. McKinley (MP), Professor W.S. Goulding (Historic Sites Board), Harold Baird (Lion's Club President), Professor James R. Scott (Seaforth historian), Harold Turner (President of the Huron County Historical Society), and Rev. G.L. Royal (Knox Presbyterian Church).

In 1981, the Annual Mariner's Service was held on November 6. The event was held at the Maitland Cemetery and included a presentation of wreaths that were laid at the foot of the grave of the unknown sailors lost in the Great Storm of 1913. The wreaths were placed by John Erb on behalf of the Goderich Kinsmen Club, John Doherty on behalf of the Town of Goderich and Ron Pennington, founder of the service, on behalf of the Goderich Legion.
