To commeorate the 90th anniversary of the Great Storm of 1913, a memoral service was held on Saturday, November 8th, 2003. This memorial service was organized by Marine Heritage Committee co-chairs Paul Carroll and Jan Hawley. Not only did the ceremony commeorate the 90th anniversary of the Great Storm but also former mariners John Doherty and Ron Pennington. Wreaths were placed at the foot of the grave of the unknown sailors by John Doherty's wife Anne and Ron Pennington's wife Lenna. A bell tolled five times as the wreath was laid at the foot of the grave - this was for each unnamed sailor buried in this grave.
