The Great Storm of 1913 Traveling Exhibit is a joint venture between the Huron County Museum and the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre (formerly the Bruce County Museum and Archives at the time the exhibit was developed). The Lambton County Museum is gratefully acknowledged for loaning a red chair that washed up near Grand Bend, Ontario following the storm.

In early 2000, a partnership between the Huron County Museum and the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre was formed to develop and build a traveling exhibit that would appeal to a large demographic as well as generate some revenue for the two institutions. The Huron County Museum undertook the majority of the research needed and about two-thirds of the construction. The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre handled the remaining one-third of research and construction. They also facilitated all marketing necessary to 'sell' the exhibit, and were in charge of scheduling the venues to which it would travel.

The exhibit required between 800 and 1,000 square feet to be adequately displayed as well as wall space for twenty framed photographs and one oil painting. It was also designed so that almost all of the shipping crates formed part of the exhibit furniture. The 'pod' crates were used as plinths and other crates could be used as artifact platforms. This eliminated the problem of crate storage associated with many other traveling exhibits.
