Once settlement took hold around the head of Lake Temiskaming, it became even more obvious that the only way to bring this area into agricultural production was to build a railway. Thus, came into being the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway. A commission, under the Provincial government was created to manage all aspects of its development.
The T.&N.O Railway became the spine on which settlement grew into what became ?New Ontario.?
