We thought we were in heaven when we got an indoor toilet, Can you imagine using a pail everyday? We used to have to bring that pail down to the beach and heave it out, ugh! That was a chore nobody wanted. Honest to my god, we would fight like dogs over that, who was going to take the pail to throw out. One time, me and my friend were going down the path and two of us holding on to the pail and here we slipped and gave the pail a sling as we went. It spilled out everywhere. Uncle Tim was coming along behind us and so we quickly had to kick snow over it. Oh my dear, what a laugh.

It was the girls who made the beds. It was the girls who brought in the wood. It was the girls who had to bring in the water. It was the girls who did the cleaning on Saturday. It was the girls who took care of the younger ones - the girls, the girls, the girls. Never the boys!

I remember being excited when the freight boat would come and bring a few oranges and apples and new kinds of candy. I remember when drink first came in bottles - Coke and Pepsi. I was really excited to get one. Now we didn't get one very often. Sometimes we'd help bring up the freight to the shop and we would probably get a bottle of drink for helping.
