In 1990, Saskatchewan once again finished in third spot with another 9-9 record. In the semi-final game against Edmonton, the Eskimos got some revenge as the Roughriders were defeated. In the 1991 season, Saskatchewan finished with a 6-12 record and did not make the playoffs. From 1992-1994, Saskatchewan finished in third place each year, and faced Edmonton for 1992 and 1993, and Calgary in 1994 in Western semi-finals. In each of these semi-finals, they lost. In 1995 and 1996 Saskatchewan finished these seasons 6-12 and 5-13 respectively and did not make the playoffs.

In 1997, it was another magical season for the Roughriders (it felt like the 1989 season). Once again finishing in third place with an 8-10 record, the Roughriders made the playoffs and went on to face Calgary in the semi-final, which Saskatchewan won 33-30. In the west final game, the Roughriders went north to face Edmonton, in which Saskatchewan won 31-30 and advanced to the Grey Cup against the Toronto Argonauts. Outmatched, Toronto defeated Saskatchewan 47-23.
